Graduation Celebration Kiddush

On Shabbat, June 11, Erev Shavuot, we will celebrate our 2016 Graduates with a special program. Join us for Shacharit at 9:00 AM. Davening and D'var Torah led by our youth, followed by Kiddush in honor of our 2016 Graduates.

Schedule of Shiurim and Learning Opportunities

Shavuot marks the official kickoff of our Sefer Torah writing project, to write our first communal Sefer Torah. The theme for all our learning this Shavuot is the sanctity and beauty of the Sefer Torah, and the mitzvah and halachot of writing a Sefer Torah

SHABBAT, JUNE 11 | EREV SHAVUOT

Following Mincha, Rabbi Gidon Rothstein will deliver a shiur on Avot entitled “Kinyan Torah: The Paths to Becoming Owners of Torah”

Tikun Leil Shavuot at the home of Rachel and Josh Wald (475 West 246th)
Refreshments, desserts and surprise delicacies served throughout the night
 

  • 10:45 – 11:30 PM: Make your own Ice Cream Sundaes, followed by a shiur geared to middle school; all are welcome.
  • 11:45 - 12:30: “Who Knows 613? I know 613! The counting of Taryag Mitzvot” – Dr. Yardaena Osband.

  • 12:45 - 1:30: "If Sifrei Torah could walk" - Rabbi Josh Wald

  • 1:45 – 2:30: “The Ten Commandments: 613 Mitzvot in 10” – Rabbi Gidon Rothstein

  • 2:45 - 4:45: Beit Midrash. Bring Your Own Seforim and learn all night!

 

SUNDAY, JUNE 12 | FIRST DAY SHAVUOT

  • Following Kiddush, drasha by Rabbi Simcha Krauss
  • One hour before Mincha (7:10 PM) Dr. Steve Bayme will discuss “Orthodox Responses to the Challenges of Biblical Scholarship”
  • Following Mincha, Rabbi Gidon Rothstein will deliver a shiur entitled: “How Many Mitzvot Do We Really Have to Keep?"

MONDAY, JUNE 13 | SECOND DAY SHAVUOT

  • There will be a short shiur following davening
  • Community Beit Midrash 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
    Mitzvah of Writing a Sefer Torah: Communal learning, followed by a shiur from Rabbi Shmuel Hain. There will be a track for children grade 3 and up to learn as well. Children of all ages are welcome to learn with their parents. Materials will be provided and refreshments will be served
